Video Memories

Chicago

Both Vito (Jan's father) and Virginia (Jan's mother) enjoyed filming Jan and her older sister Judy. They captured many moments during celebrations: Easter, Christmas, birthdays, and vacations, as well as a few bits of ordinary life. Thanks to them we have some incredible footage of Jan's childhood and early years living on Hobart in Chicago.

Newtown

Old videotapes from Jan’s time as a young mother show that Jan followed in her parents footsteps by always having a camera on hand. As she herself commented to the camera, "I'm usually the one behind it." However, we found many moments, some quick waves and some turns at center stage, that captured this period.

Holidays and Gatherings

Jan had a way of making every holiday or gathering special, making sure to take time to plan things that everyone would enjoy.  Putting ornaments on the tree or unwrapping presents while pausing to pick up one of her boys, building a snowman and getting into snowball fights, twirling across the dancefloor with Tom, the love of her life: Jan never missed a moment of these special occasions.

Vacation

Jan had a passion for travel, both as a travel agent before she was a teacher, and as a wife and mom with an adventurous spirit.  From learning to throw a boomerang in Australia to dog sledding in Alaska, cruises and amusement parks, family trips and romantic vacations, Jan was always up for anything and brought her spirit of discovery and joy to everyone who traveled with her.
